Methodological Critique: Value 25%<\/h1>\n
This critique will focus on the similarities and differences between qualitative and\u00a0quantitative research methods. You will read the sample research studies\u00a0provided at the end ofChapter One in your textbook. Prior to beginning this\u00a0assignment, you may wish to carry out Tasks 1A and 1B in Chapter One of your\u00a0textbook as preparation.<\/p>\n
Your critique is divided into two parts.<\/p>\n
Part 1: Descriptive Analysis and Critique<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Describe the methods used in each article and state why the authors selected\u00a0the particular methods to study the stated research problem or questions.<\/li>\n
- Discuss how the selected methods are the best methods for addressing these\u00a0problems, and if so why. If not, why not.<\/li>\n
- Describe the major differences between the Quantitative Example and the\u00a0Qualitative Example in terms of the following dimensions:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Description of research problem<\/p>\n
\n- Selection and Assignment of Participants<\/li>\n
- Data Collection and Analysis<\/li>\n
- Procedures and Instruments<\/li>\n
- Reporting of Literature<\/li>\n
- Reporting of Conclusions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Part 2: Methodologies for Your Future Research<\/strong>
This part of the assignment asks you to look at what you have done in Part 1 and\u00a0discuss how your analysis and critique may influence your perspectives on the\u00a0kind of research you consider most relevant to your own interests.<\/p>\n\n- What does each of these studies tell you about how to design an educational\u00a0research project? For example, what are the particular characteristics of\u00a0quantitative design that you see as most important to articulate and consider.<\/li>\n
- The space of educational research spans from purely quantitative to purely\u00a0qualitative to mixed methods. Thinking of your own research interests, which of\u00a0the methods are more or less appealing to you as a new educational researcher,\u00a0and why.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
NOTE: All writings in this course should adhere strictly to the APA style as\u00a0outlined in the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association\u00a0(available in the bookstore and library).
